Would a man ever be asked this question?

I am a proud feminist. So are my friends. Occasionally, however, we hear people remark that’s there’s no longer “any need” for feminism. That we’re “equal.”

In law we are. But reality is much different.

Proof is found here. Unreal.

Yes. And they were, over 20 years ago.

Bill Clinton and George W. Bush were famously asked whether they wore boxers or briefs by MTV, I believe it was. Bush choked on the question, Clinton didn’t. Their answers became symbols of the generational divide and of the unstoppable Clinton momentum.

How would you feel if a woman politician was asked what kind of underwear she wore?

Perhaps the questioner asked the question out of pure curiosity, because fashion design is actually a thing, right? They sell a few magazines on the subject, I believe.

Perhaps the questioner assumed it might be possible for a woman to be Secretary of State of the U.S.A. and still retain an opinion on the matter.

Perhaps it wasn’t a mindless attack on the integrity of womankind.

I wonder if a European woman politician would have as much of a problem with the question as Hilary Clinton did.

Duh! Correction: the Bush involved was of course George H. W. Bush, the elder. Dubya’s dad.
